As told by the local Chattanooga Times Free Press, “service to clients and community remains a core commitment.” Since our founding, we have focused on building and strengthening our hometown and the surrounding region for current and future generations. Our firm invests in its people and community through pro bono work and public service. Named as the 2015 Corporate Philanthropist of the Year for National Philanthropy Day, we support a wide variety of nonprofit organizations, including those fostering downtown revitalization, education, entrepreneurship, environmental stewardship, and inclusion for all.
Partnerships and Community Service
Pro Bono Work – Recognized as Pro Bono Firm of the Year for multiple years, our attorneys provide pro bono legal services to aging, abused, and low-income residents of our region through Legal Aid of East Tennessee (LAET). We have also worked with the local bar association to host Wills for Heroes, from 2015 to 2018, and Essential Documents for Essential Workers, from 2022 to 2023, for first responders to obtain simple wills and powers of attorney.
Chambliss Center for Children – In 1946, A.W. Chambliss worked to provide a refuge for abused and neglected children he saw coming through his court by establishing the Chambliss Shelter. Over 75 years later, the Chambliss Center for Children continues to be a safe haven for vulnerable youth, and the firm proudly supports the nonprofit through sponsorships, giving campaigns, and volunteer hours.
Stophel Scholars – Another cherished partnership is with The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga’s Rollins College of Business. In 2008, Chambliss established an ongoing endowment in support of a select group of high potential business students with strong academic records and civic contributions. Named in honor of John C. Stophel, the Stophel Scholars Program fosters real-world experience and network building through mentorships with Chambliss attorneys and managers, as well as firm hosted events like the annual community reception for the scholars. The firm has recognized more than 85 students over the years!
Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service – Chambliss joins the city and local businesses in participating in MLK Day of Service activities for “A Day On, Not a Day Off.” Attorneys and other team members at Chambliss work alongside other community members on various acts of service, such as cleaning up campuses, improving playgrounds and community areas, working in classrooms, and painting projects. “The time is always right to do what is right.” – Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
Season of Giving – Every year Chambliss hosts the Season of Giving, a digital campaign introduced through our beloved holiday e-card. The Season of Giving features select nonprofits or charitable organizations, one of which is always the Chambliss Center for Children. Chambliss’ clients and friends of the firm receive the holiday card via email with a link to watch a special holiday video. All organizations receive a financial contribution from our firm. In addition, Chambliss attorneys and team members give back during the holiday season by collecting wish list items for local families and children who would not otherwise have the opportunity to enjoy gifts at the end of the year.
